The Congolese government has embarked on three national peace and reconciliation programs:
The Amani program focused on disarmament, demobilization, and the reintegration of armed groups of North and South Kivu. It was completed in July 2009.
The Stabilization Program for Eastern DRC (STAREC) focused on education, health, infrastructure development, and the reintegration of soldiers to their communities. It was completed in 2012.
In April 2015 the Congolese government approved a new plan to stabilize North Kivu. A continuation of STAREC, this effort will focus on consultation and dialogue with people living in the affected areas.
